Captain Donald Stuart Seeth, age 52 of Mattituck, NY and Fort Lauderdale, FL passed away July 25, 2009 of lung cancer. Don was born Aug 2, 1956 in Mineola, NY, the son of Jane Ehlers Seeth and Douglas Stuart Seeth. He was a graduate of Wheatley High School and had been a professional boat captain for 30 yrs.
Don is survived by his loving partner, Mary Ary, his father Douglas, his brother Paul (and his wife Rebecca) and brother Randall (and his loving partner Betty) and nieces Nicole and Lauren. Don was preceded in death by his mother Jane.
Don was a natural athlete who excelled at every sport he attempted. But, the one sport he had a lifelong passion for was surfing. His surfing adventures took him from Montauk to Puerto Rico and in recent years to Hawaii and Costa Rica. Don was 6’4”, a big powerful man. But, when he caught a wave he was catlike….poetry in motion.
As to Don's wish, no funeral services will be held. His ashes will be scattered at a date to be established at his favorite surfing spot on Long Island, 'Three's".
Don will be remembered for his strength, intelligence and great sense of humor. But without question his finest attribute was the kindness of his heart. Don’s family and friends knew they could always count on him in times of need. He was a “rock” for so many people, he will be sorely missed.
Don maintained a positive attitude and never gave up the battle against his cancer. He would want that fight continued, so in lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society.
